Six Event Planning Dos And Don’ts

If you’re getting ready to throw a major event, whether for work or leisure, you might want to take special care to make sure everything goes off without a hitch. Whoever your guests may be, as a planner, you’re going to want to pull out all the stops to throw an unforgettable shindig. However, it’s so easy to slip up; even the pro event organizers occasionally mess things up if they get a little too confident. Here are just a couple of dos and don’ts to keep in mind.
Start planning early. Start planning as early as you can, because no event is without its unexpected hiccups. You will need to know guest availability, contact venues, organize party catering in Singapore, and send out invitations well in advance. You have to check with guests about what they do and do not eat, as well as what they might be allergic to, just in case. If you fail to send invitations out early enough, your guests won’t be able to fit the event into their schedules.
Have a theme. Invitations, décor, and menus are best centered around a theme. This can be based on themed attire, or it could be just a well-chosen color scheme. For example, if it’s a beach theme, someone who cater food can be seafood, and the décor can be tiki torches and water features. Seafood is a highly common allergy, however, so check with your guests beforehand.
Give your guests a parting gift. Remember, you want your guests to have an unforgettable experience. A small thoughtful token of appreciation will give them something tangible to remind them of the occasion. Try to have something decorative that is in keeping with the theme, rather than something edible that can’t be kept over time.
Forget the entertainment. Depending on the theme and the venue, you might want to consider different options to figure out what’s most appropriate. You can’t have a DJ if the theme is the 1920s; you’ll need to hire a swing band. Of course, you don’t need to hire a live act, nor do you exclusively have to have music. There can always be digitally played music, and you could always hire fire dancers and other fun acts (provided the venue is appropriate).
Have an open bar. Especially if the venue isn’t your own home, it’s best to avoid alcoholic drinks or having too much alcohol flowing. You don’t want your guests to get intoxicated and make a mess or cause any embarrassment or fights. Cocktails are usually a milder option.
Forget to relax. Even as the host, you should be able to enjoy yourself. Let loose a little, have fun, and don’t worry too much about seeing to every single guest’s needs.
Keep these six dos and don’ts in mind when planning, during, and after the event. You’ll have a pretty successful bash, and you and your guests will have an enjoyable, unforgettable time.
